Well-known weatherman Dick Stoddard of KOLO TV News Channel 8 is metered and proud.  He signed up for a meter in January of 2002 and in his first metered month, Stoddard paid just $22.50.  This was a pleasant surprise compared to the $50 he had always paid on a flat rate.

Now his bill is always under $50 and he feels good about paying for what he uses.

"I have saved literally hundreds of dollars since I made the switch to a water meter," Stoddard said.

Stoddard was impressed with how seamless the process for getting a meter was.  He called TMWA and spoke with a customer service representative who explained that once you convert to a meter, you couldn't go back to a flat rate.  Pleasantly, he also learned that there would be no cost to him for switching.

Born and raised in Reno, Stoddard understands that water is one of the area's most precious resources.  He feels that when people are on a meter they have a tendency to conserve more.

"People's first reaction is to say ‘no…I don't want to be metered'," said Stoddard.  "But once they understand it they see why it makes sense."
